AT MBBR wastewater treatment plant

AT MBBR Bio-Carrier Wastewater Treatment Plants – General Information

Wastewater treatment plants of the AT4 MBBR to AT20 MBBR series represent a type of domestic wastewater treatment plants, where biological wastewater treatment ensures the growth of microorganisms (biofilm) on floating biocarriers using MBBR technology - Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor. They are used to treat wastewater from family houses, residential buildings, groups of houses and from wastewater sources where sewage wastewater is produced. WWTPs with MBBR technology are also suitable for treating wastewater from sources where other than sewage wastewater is formed - small dairy, bakery and confectionery production plants and other small food production plants. Biofilm reactors can also be used where wastewater is generated only seasonally (cottages).

AT MBBR Bio-Carrier Wastewater Treatment Plants by Aquatec

Bio-carrier domestic wastewater treatment plants of the AT 4 - AT 20 MBBR series are a solution and bring benefits to every household:

  • simple system without the need to adjust air valves on the WWTP,
  • stable system that withstands load fluctuations (WWTP operation at a cottage),
  • sludge is not washed out of the system even with increased hydraulic load,
  • no biological foaming occurs,
  • withstands toxic effects, tolerates pH fluctuations,
  • meets the prescribed standard EN 12566-3.
  • possibility of reducing the number of WWTP inspections to 1x every 2 years (with GSM control).
The treated wastewater can be discharged into surface or groundwater, or recycled by using it for irrigation of lawns and ornamental greenery, or used for technical purposes after filtration.

AT MBBR wastewater treatment plants meet: Category I. and Category II. according to the Regulation of the Government of the Slovak Republic No. 359/2022 Coll. for discharges to both surface and groundwater for source sizes up to 50 EO.

AT MBBR Bio-Carrier Wastewater Treatment Plant

AT4 MBBR – AT20 MBBR wastewater treatment plants are always supplied with the AQC MBBR GSM microprocessor control unit and a blower shaft.

The AQC MBBR GSM microprocessor control unit is used for fully automatic control of the amount of air supplied to the AT MBBR series wastewater treatment plants. It regulates individual technological processes taking place in the wastewater treatment plant, automates, simplifies and reduces the cost of operation. The service center is directly informed about the current status, or about possible outages of the wastewater treatment plant, and at the same time allows you to set the operating mode of the wastewater treatment plant remotely. Equipping the control unit with a GSM module allows you to reduce the number of revisions to 1x in two years.

The AQC MBBR microprocessor control unit is completely manufactured, tested and certified in Slovakia. The quality of the materials used, the design of the control unit and its design allow for flawless functionality even in a humid environment (IP 44). The control unit includes a Non-stop and Start mode and several standard operating modes of the treatment plant, as well as additional modes such as a holiday or so-called chat mode, which can be used to adapt the operation of the treatment plant to the current load. In the event of a power outage or a malfunction of the blower, solenoid valve or an additional device, the control unit emits an acoustic and visual signal. The AQC MBBR control unit with a GSM module informs the service center online. After the fault is eliminated (e.g. the power supply is restored), the control unit automatically returns to the preset mode and the power outage remains recorded in the unit's internal memory.

The control unit is placed in the blower shaft. In the case of the GSM module, it must be located within the range of the GSM signal.

Treatment process in a domestic wastewater treatment plant AT MBBR

Domestic wastewater treatment plants type AT4 MBBR – AT20 MBBR use the MBBR process - moving bed biofilm reactor. The device consists of one cylindrical polypropylene tank - bioreactor, which combines in one tank the functions of primary/mechanical treatment, accumulation of primary and biological sludge, biological treatment using the MBBR process and separation of purified water and biological sludge.

The bioreactor tank is divided into three functional areas:
  • primary treatment area
  • biological treatment area
  • separation area.
Sewage wastewater containing coarse impurities flows into a retractable rake basket in the primary treatment area. Non-biodegradable coarse impurities are collected in the basket and biodegradable coarse impurities are decomposed by the action of hydrodynamic forces of coarse-bubble aeration under the basket and recirculation of biological sludge from the separation space. Mechanically pre-treated wastewater flows into the primary space, where settling and anaerobic decomposition of primary and biological sludge occur. Primary pre-treated wastewater flows into the biological treatment space. The biological treatment space contains suspended biocarriers on which a culture of microorganisms (biofilm) is concentrated, which ensure biological treatment. The floating of biocarriers is ensured by aeration elements at the bottom of the aerated space and a blower. Dead and separated biomass from the surface of the biocarriers forms biological sludge, which flows together with the purified wastewater into the separation space. In the separation area, the purified wastewater is separated and flows through the flow regulator into the drain. The flow regulator serves to prevent the floating sludge from being washed out. The settled sludge from the bottom of the separation area is pumped out by a mammoth pump into the primary area for accumulation and anaerobic decomposition.

The settled biological sludge is pumped out of the separation area into the primary area, where its volume is reduced by decomposition under anaerobic conditions and, together with the heavier primary sludge, is stored in the lower part of the sludge area, from where it is removed by periodic pumping and removal at intervals depending on the load of the WWTP or after reaching a high sludge level. The removal of the settled biological sludge is controlled in automatic mode using an electromagnetic valve.

A blower supplies compressed air for aerating the area with biocarriers and for operating the mammoth pumps. The blower blows air into an air distributor with control valves, which distributes the air to the mammoth pumps and coarse-bubble aeration elements according to the valve settings on the air distributor.

The blower and the electromagnetic valve for sludge removal are controlled by a microprocessor control unit. Blower failure and power failure are reported by optical and acoustic signaling, or by GSM connection.
